Scheduled Post Publishing on Blogger

Today Blogger announced a new feature to all their bloggers, it’s called schedules post publishing. Which means that you can write posts and schedule them in the feature, so you can leave for vacation and no one will notice! It’s also good if you are feeling extra creative one day, then you don’t have to publish them all at once.

A great future! Finally!

RSS Awareness Day

Thursday, May 1st, 2008 | Blogging with 2 Comments

RSS Awareness DayToday, May 1st, it’s the RSS Awareness Day. Nowadays there are so many awareness days that you can hardly remember them all, and it seems that anyone can create an awareness day if they can promote it the right way. Perhaps I should create the Dirty Panties Awarenes Day, I think they deserve a special day, or not.

On to the RSS. It’s actually scary that so many blog readers still don’t know what RSS is. And they are really missing something big. Those of you that are using an RSS reader can probably agree with me that they are a time saver. It’s like having tons of magazines landing on your doorstep every hour!
And not to forget many new bloggers doesn’t even know if they have RSS on their blogs or not.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly. An RSS document (which is called feed) contains either a summary or the full content from a website.

The main benefit of RSS is that it enables people to stay connected with their favorite websites without having to visit them. Once you subscribe to a particular RSS feed, you will automatically receive updates from the website that publishes the feed, whenever they release new content. – From RSSDay

So the main thing to learn here is that you should make sure you have a site feed and that people can subscribe it easily. There is nothing worse than visiting a blog you like that doesn’t offer RSS feeds!

Do we love Google again?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 | Blogging with No Comments »

Scared bloggerThere seems to have been a slight (?) change of pageranks the last few days. For me it has been pretty decent I think. I won’t jump high since you never know with Google, they might change their minds again tomorrow.

We say that we don’t care about pagerank anymore, but still we get all crazy, scared, sweaty and wild every time something happens! :P

So, do you guys love Google again? Did you get what you wanted? :)

How to add NoFollow to your WordPress Blogroll

Monday, April 28th, 2008 | Blogging with 4 Comments

NoFollowSome of us uses the internal blogroll function in WordPress, but just because you can’t add the nofollow attribute some people are putting up their blogroll by hand!

Why add nofollow?
As suggested by Google, it’s best to use rel=”nofollow” to avoid any potential backlash from the external links in the blogroll. However, I should also mention that there is some very strong criticism against it as well. This is up to you if you want to use it or not. If you decide to, here is how to make WordPress automatically add nofollow to all of your blogroll links.

How to make WordPress automatically add nofollow to the blogroll
You should be somewhat experienced with the WordPress core source codes to do this! Do this at your own risk!

  • Find the wp-includes directory in your WordPress folder.
  • Edit the file called bookmark-template.php in a text editor.
  • Find the following code (line 86 in WP 2.5.1):

    $output .= '<a href="' . $the_link . '"' . $rel . $title . $target. '>';

  • Replace it with the following line:

    $output .= '<a href="' . $the_link . '"' . $title . $target. ' rel="nofollow">';

  • As you can see we added the rel=”nofollow” at the end. Now save and upload the file again. Now the attribute will be added to every link in your blogroll.

Promoting your posts – Where to start

Saturday, April 19th, 2008 | Blogging with No Comments »

If you are a newbie in the blogosphere you probably need a hint in the right direction. When you think you are writing good quality articles on your blog, it is time to get the word out there. By promoting your posts you will get more traffic and hopefully a few new readers!

The very best way is to submit your articles to social new sites. I will list a few popular ones (in no particular order) that you can check out. Not all of them might be the right for you, it all depends what you are writing about. If you write about food and cooking you shouldn’t submit it to, for example, Sphinn which is a social site for search and interactive marketers.

  • Sphinn
Main topic is internet marketing and social media
  • Digg
Many different topics, but doesn’t cover everything
  • Sk-rt
Covers it all. A site leaning mostly towards females
  • StumbleUpon
Perhaps the most popular of them. Get people to stumble your post and you will receive tons of traffic in return
  • Propeller
    Everything and anything
  • Mixx
    Does also cover almost everything

Try them out and see which one works the best for you!
